Made it to Airborne!

August 30th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

Made it to Airborne!, originally uploaded by bburgi.

Made it to Ft Benning on Friday and found out we have the whole weekend off. I’m prettty much sitting around at the activity center here, watching tv and surfing the net on my phone. Not a bad way to spend the weekend and get paid to do it. We start training on Tuesday with a PT test, then hit the ground running. I’ll keep you updated.

Mythbusters CENSORED!

August 27th, 2008 | Category: random

So, here’s a fun one… Remember the Mythbusters videos we did a while back? Well, we got a nice letter and phone call from the real Mythbuster’s lawyers letting us know that our parodies were illegal because we used the original Mythbuster’s logo. We were instructed to remove the videos, but that would be too easy since we put so much work into creating them. Instead I just edited out the offending footage.

The worst part is the exploding beans myth had almost 35,000 views in addition to a ton of comments since we first put it up. Now the counter is reset and we’re back to the beginning.

Support the Impostor Mythbusters… go watch the video!

Here’s the edited version:

Enjoy!

Life Support

Click the small picture to the right in the grey box to watch the video:

I found this site today (heart support) while doing some research for an upcoming message series, and realized that this is the type of thing that really grabs my heart – There are so many people around us that are hurting and many of them don’t think anyone else cares. We have access to a peace that transcends all understanding, but we hide it and keep it to ourselves. Why do we judge people so much for what they’ve done and what they’re going through? Don’t we realize that we have our own sin and struggles? If not for the grace of God each of us could be in the same position at any moment.

Reach out to each other. Support each other. Share the love of Christ with each other – not the words, but the LOVE.

Army Airborne

Army Airborne

I’m going to Airborne school! I’ve wanted to do this for as long as I knew what it was… I can’t tell you how excited I am about getting the opportunity to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

All I ask is that you pray for me that I don’t get hurt training.

See you back on the ground!

More on “It”

August 18th, 2008 | Category: thoughts

As I continue to read “It” I have decided that I will be blogging regularly about what God is telling me through it. Hope you don’t mind… but I hope more that you get something out of it.

Teamwork, community and focus are the themes that are tugging at my heart right now. Especially focus. Focus on a single goal – for FOSM that goal is to see a city transformed by the power and saving grace of Jesus. That must be our passion. Our life’s mission. The single driving force behind everything we do, think, eat, breathe and believe in. If there is anything that distracts from that it must be left behind. I’ll even take that a step further – if anything we do doesn’t contribute it must be left behind.

Also, a funny thing happened today. I sat down to work on something that I should have finished last week. I had been putting it off because I knew it would take a lot of time and effort that I frankly didn’t have in me. I say it’s a funny thing, because once I sat down and actually put some effort into it, the project wasn’t as bad as I feared. Now it’s off my back and I feel a lot happier. Just goes to show you, those monsters that hide under the bed usually aren’t as scary if you face them head on instead of letting them grow in your imagination as you try to avoid them.
